Curator's comments:

Some shadow puppets were stage props that acted like curtains in a theatre, providing a separation between various scenes in a performance. The musicians depicted here are playing a variety of musical instruments, such as tambourines (tef), drums (davul), and Turkish oboes (zurna). This prop was used to mark festivities such as weddings and circumcisions in shadow theatre performances.
