The Arabic inscription, cut away from the chiseled ground, starts with the shahada (Profession of Faith) and continues with the name of the deceased: ‘the one who is forgiven (al-maghfura) Khadija, daughter of al-Haj Kabir abu Akra.' The title ‘al- Hajj’ indicates that Khadija’s father went on pilgrimage to Mecca (hajj). Th headdress is typical for women of high social standing during this period.
